Tembak Ikan Odds Explained: How Fishing Games Really Pay

Evidence: provider descriptions, cabinet-supplier claims and illustrative arithmetic. We have not measured a fishing app's returns or inspected its software. A published figure for one game does not verify a similarly named game elsewhere. See our methodology.

In a fishing game, each paid shot uses credits and a successful catch can award a prize. A large multiplier says little about value without the shot cost, catch rules and probability. Those details vary by game.

What to Check Before Interpreting the Numbers

What a Fishing Game Is

Fish-shooting games, also called tembak ikan, use an arcade-style cannon and moving targets. TaDa describes paid shots, aiming, multiplayer play and special features. The rules determine how catches and rewards are credited; “the final shot always gets everything” is not a safe assumption for every game.

Underwater artwork alone does not identify this genre. A reel game with a fishing-themed bonus is still a slot. Our Ocean King review explains the separate problem of matching a name to a provider.

What the Supplier's Adjustable-Hold Claim Establishes

Cabinet supplier Guangzhou Hanzhijun advertises an adjustable 20–100% profit or hold range in its product listings. This is a sales claim about the machines described, not a measured return from a Malaysian phone app. It does not establish that every fishing game has the same controls or range.

Hold means the share retained rather than returned. If an assumed long-run return is 80%, the corresponding hold is 20%. The calculation below illustrates that relationship; it does not authenticate the supplier's claim or identify an app's setting.

A ×100 Prize Is Not a 100-Fold Return on All Your Spending

Suppose a game's rules award 100 times one RM0.10 shot, with the full RM10 reward credited to you. If your total spending to obtain that reward was 100 shots, you spent RM10 and broke even. At 125 shots you spent RM12.50 and lost RM2.50. At 50 shots you spent RM5 and gained RM5.

This example assumes an unchanged shot price, no other prizes or costs, and that all shots being counted belong to this attempt. It does not establish how many shots a real fish will take or whether another player can receive the reward. Include unsuccessful shots and abandoned targets when judging a session.

An Illustrative Probability Model

For a simplified model only, suppose every shot independently catches a fish with probability p, the prize is M times the shot price, and there are no other rewards. Expected return per shot is M × p. If the assumed return is r, then p = r/M and the expected number of shots until a catch is M/r.

This model is not a description of a verified app. Changing targets, shared damage, changing catch probabilities, special weapons and jackpots can make it unsuitable. The average is not a deadline at which a fish must pay.

Record Spending; Do Not Mistake a Short Sample for the Game's RTP

Your realised session return is all prizes credited ÷ all stakes spent × 100%. Use money amounts if shot prices change, and include spending that produced no catch. Deposits and withdrawals alone do not measure turnover when winnings are replayed.

For a fixed shot price and simple prizes, adding all awarded multipliers and dividing by all paid shots gives the same ratio. Do not average each fish's separate return percentage: that gives small and large spending amounts equal weight. A short session's ratio describes that session. It cannot certify the configured long-run RTP or prove the game is fair.

Do Aiming and Cannon Power Matter?

There is no single answer for all fishing games. Increasing the price of an otherwise identical bet increases the amount at risk; whether it changes the catch probability depends on the rules. A special weapon may change the mechanics as well.

TaDa's own Ocean King Jackpot description says Phoenix Power boosts the kill rate fivefold and describes other enhanced cannon features. Its fishing catalogue also markets aiming and strategy. These statements contradict a blanket claim that cannon features or decisions can never affect outcomes. They do not prove that skill guarantees profit or overcomes the game's expected cost.

A published RTP and a role for player decisions can coexist. Neither a cabinet supplier's adjustable setting nor a legal definition of gambling proves that skill has no mathematical effect in every game.

What We Can Verify About Published RTP

TaDa publishes a maximum RTP of 97% for Ocean King Jackpot: 94.5% base game, 1.2% fixed jackpot, 0.3% progressive jackpot and 1% for the free Dark Whirlpool feature. These add to 97%. The description also explains an energy meter filled by shots and a feature that attacks fish on screen.

That is a provider-published figure, not our measurement. Match the exact title, version and included features before applying it elsewhere. It does not establish an RTP for a game labelled “Ocean King” inside Mega888.

JILI and TaDa catalogues contain overlapping fishing titles. That overlap alone does not establish corporate ownership or independently confirm an RTP. Our JILI profile gives further context. We have not established a provider-authenticated RTP for the specific Mega888 build discussed in our review; this is a limit of our evidence, not proof that no documentation exists.

Legal and Payment Risks in Malaysia

Malaysian law can penalise players as well as operators. Section 6(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act addresses gaming in a common gaming house; section 6(1) of the Betting Act addresses betting with a bookmaker by any means. Each provides for a fine up to RM5,000, imprisonment up to six months, or both. The Common Gaming Houses Act's definition of gaming includes mixed chance and skill. That legal classification does not determine how much skill affects a particular game.
